Turkish Foreign Minister Mouloud Zhaoshoglu said on Tuesday that his country would not cut off trade ties with Tehran on orders from other countries after the United States told countries this week to stop all imports of Iranian oil from November. Zhaošoglu made the remarks in an interview with NTV television. Washington on Tuesday called on countries around the world to stop buying Iranian oil by November 4, as they face new US economic sanctions.

On Wednesday, Turkish Economy Minister Nihad Zibekji said Turkey did not consider itself bound to comply with US efforts to halt Iranian oil exports. Zibekji said at a meeting in Ankara on trade with the European Free Trade Association that the US decision is not binding on Turkey and will work to ensure that Iran is not harmed. "The decisions taken by the United States are not binding on us. We will (only) abide by any UN resolutions. " "We will try to pay attention to this so that Iran, a friend and brother country, will not be subjected to any injustice or harm in this regard." Turkey relies on imports to provide nearly all of its energy needs. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said last year Turkey was looking to increase its annual trade with Iran to $ 30 billion from $ 10 billion.
