Canadian Foreign Minister Christia Freeland confirmed that her country would not "back down" from responding to recent US tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum.
Freeland said the purpose of the target product list was to respond to the dollar-to-dollar principle on US tariffs imposed on June 1.
"Our approach is that we will not go up, but we will not back down," he added.
Freeland's remarks came as Canadian officials unveiled a $ 1.5 billion aid package to support the country's steel and aluminum industries.
Canada's retaliatory customs duties on US products worth $ 12 billion are due to go into effect starting in early July.
The Canadian tariffs target US products made of steel and aluminum.
Other Canadian products such as yoghurt, ketchup and orange juice, products manufactured in states that are battlegrounds for sharp political battles, such as Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Florida, are also targeted by Canadian drawings. Ending / 25
