40 countries in the WTO object to the imposition of US fees on cars

(Encyclopedia of this day , news | News Iraq ) -

Trade partners of the United States, including the European Union, China and Japan, at the World Trade Organization (WTO) expressed serious concern that the United States may impose additional tariffs on imports of vehicles and their components.

Japan warned that such measures could lead to a series of countermeasures that would ultimately lead to the collapse of the multilateral rules-based trading system, an official attending the meeting said.

More than 40 WTO member countries, including 28 from the European Union, have warned that US action could cause serious damage to the international market and threaten the WTO system given the importance of cars to world trade.

The United States has imposed tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum from Europe, and a new national security study is under way that could lead to import duties on cars and components.

The United States is based on national security concerns.

US President Donald Trump said on June 29 that the investigation would be completed within three to four weeks.

But the European Union has warned the United States that the imposition of tariffs on car imports and components hurt America's auto industry and is likely to lead to countermeasures by its partners on US exports worth $ 294 billion.
