The Directorate of Agriculture of Dhi Qar on Thursday approved the summer plan for the cultivation of various crops with an area of 45 thousand dunums, excluding the crops of corn and barley.
The assistant director of agriculture Dhi Qar, Faraj Nahi, in a statement quoted by the newspaper "morning" and the official "Economic News", "The problem of water scarcity, which passes through the country, prompted the Directorate to approve the summer plan for this season with an area of 45 thousand acres, It was "confined to the cultivation of summer vegetables only."
He pointed out that "the Directorate excluded from the plan the cultivation of important crops, including milk and yellow maize and white, which will negatively affect the farmers of the province largely because they depend in their agriculture on strategic crops."
Nahi explained that "the previous seasons the department had a large agricultural plan amounted to about 140 thousand acres, as well as the cultivation of four thousand acres of crop Alshlab."
