A director of the Dongming Petrochemicals refinery in east China's Shandong province has announced that the purchase of crude oil from the United States has stopped and imported from Iran instead.
"The Chinese government has decided to set new tariffs on the import of oil from America and focus henceforth on West Africa and the Middle East, including Iran for the purchase of oil," Japan Todi newspaper quoted the official as saying.
"The issue of importing oil from Iran rather than America in future deals has been raised," said the official, whose name was not disclosed in the light of continued tensions and a trade dispute between China and the United States.
According to the official, the Chinese government has been asserting the purchase of oil from the Middle East more and more and the issue of increasing duties on imported oil from America is under study.
"China is pursuing a policy of exchange or exchange without a push to impose more duties on US goods," John Drescoll, chairman of energy consulting firm JDD, was quoted as saying.
He stressed that the issue of stopping China's import of oil from America and replacing it with Iran's oil is on the table and that China does not care about Washington's sanctions and threats. End 25 n
