The Amir of Kuwait Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Sunday expressed his country's readiness to provide all possible support to Iraq so that it can overcome the events it is going through against the backdrop of the popular protests taking place in the southern provinces of the country.
This came during a telephone call received by the morning of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi, according to the official Kuwait News Agency.
Al-Sabah expressed the hope that "Iraq will prevail in peace and security, and strive to unite its ranks, unite its people and join forces to achieve all that is good and good for him and his people and the brotherly country can overcome these conditions."
Abadi, the Emir of Kuwait, assured the security situation in some provinces, while reviewing the bilateral relations between the two countries and issues of common concern.
The protests began a week before Basra, and later spread to other provinces with a Shiite majority in the south of the country, including Muthanna, Maysan, Diwaniyah and Dhi Qar, demanding basic public services such as water, electricity, jobs and fighting corruption.
The government has taken decisions to contain the protests, including the allocation of government jobs and funds, the province of Basra, as well as plans to implement service projects in the short and medium term.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi on Sunday ordered security forces not to fire live ammunition at demonstrators demanding services and jobs in the south of the country after four people were killed in a week.
