Iran's OPEC governor, Hossein Kazempour Ardebili, sent a message to US President Donald Trump, in which he tried to persuade him to rely on Iranian oil instead of the strategic oil reserve as part of a global plan to cut crude oil prices.

"My advice to you, Mr. President, is to avoid relying on the strategic reserve for calm, and instead to lift the sanctions on Iranian oil exports," said Ardebili, who told Trump by e-mail.

The Trump administration is studying intensively the use of reserve oil reserves in the country, amid growing political pressure ahead of the November congressional elections and continuing pressure on Iran after renewed sanctions, according to people familiar with the issue.

US sanctions will cut Iran's flows by half as soon as they come into force on November 4, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), where the country exports about 2.5 million bpd.
