In the southernmost province of Basra, Walid al-Sharifi admitted that salinity in the Shatt al-Arab waters amounted to 40 thousand TDS, equivalent to the rate of salinity of seawater.

"The citizens of the judiciary rely mainly on the consumption of water coming from the irrigation channel in the Kftlan area, which also recorded a significant increase in salinity, reaching 5,000 tds," Sharifi said.

Al-Sharifi said that "the situation in the FAO district foreshadows a human catastrophe."
