US President Donald Trump, his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, accused Moscow of trying to intervene in the US elections.
Trump, who faces a storm for criticism over his position, which was considered too lenient with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Helsinki summit, said he was the most "resolute" president of Russia.
"No president was more assertive than I was about Russia, and I think President Putin knows that more than anyone else," he said at a cabinet meeting at the White House.
