UNICEF: 55,000 children need humanitarian assistance in Kenitra

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) announced that 55,000 children are missing humanitarian aid in the southern province of Quneitra.
"There are 180,000 people who have fled the recent wave of violence in southern Syria," UNICEF regional director Gert Kapelier said before a UN Security Council meeting on Thursday on the conflict in Syria.
"According to UNICEF's estimate, half of the displaced are children," the official said in a statement. "Many of these children and their families lack essential humanitarian assistance."
He called for "humanitarian, safe, unconditional and unimpeded access to aid for 6 million children in need of assistance" in the Arab country, which has been at war since 2011.
Troops loyal to the Syrian government and armed opposition factions in the Kenitra province, where calm has prevailed since Wednesday, reached an agreement, according to Syrian media.
