    The Bahraini newspaper "Akhbar Al Khaleej" published a report on Friday on the transfer of Basra province to the province, indicating that "15 members of the Basra Provincial Council have submitted a request to Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi to turn Basra into a territory."
    "The project of transforming Basra into a territory will be on the prime minister's office within days," said the head of the provincial council, Waleed Kitan. "There is a determination by the majority of the people of Basra to independence financially and administratively from Baghdad because of the suffering of the Basrain. Steal their money and tamper with their capabilities. "
    "The Iraqi government can not stop the demand of the people of Basra to turn into a territory if that request is in line with the constitution," said Saad al-Hadithi, a spokesman for the prime minister.
    "But the current circumstances that Iraq is going through are not suitable to turn the provinces into regions, which will divide the country and weaken it more," he said.
    According to sources close to Prime Minister Haider Abadi, the latter may apologize for considering the request to turn Basra into a territory because the mandate of his government has ended as well as financial allocations to establish a territory is not available now.

    The head of the Basra Provincial Council Walid Qitan said that the claim to establish the province of Basra caused by the failure of the Baghdad government to provide the simplest services to maintain.
     

    Kitan said during press statements that Basra has been suffering from a water crisis since 2009.
     

    He said in his remarks that the irrigation channel, which was funded by agricultural initiative funds increased the salinity of the waters of the Shatt al-Arab did not reduce the crisis, which is exacerbated annually.
