US Defense Secretary James Matisse said reopening communication channels at the highest level with other countries, including Russia, was key to resolving differences.
"Based on my long-standing position on protecting America from any conventional, nuclear, electronic or anything else, I have a file that I am responsible for and to implement," Matisse told reporters.
"I was always encouraging and even promoting the idea of talking to each other even when there were nuclear missiles addressed to each other and as you know they are now oriented towards the ocean," he said.
"Even during the Cold War, there were talks between the presidents of the two countries, and therefore it is not about the current administration, it is for years." Therefore, I encourage the reopening of channels of communication at the highest level. It is essential that leaders talk to each other and it is essential that We are talking to the countries with which we have big differences, and in that way only those differences are resolved. "
