The Russian Defense Ministry announced the opening of seven new crossings for the return of Syrian refugees to their country, including maritime and air.
The head of the National Center for the Defense of the Russian Federation, Major General Michael Mizintsev, said at a meeting of the Coordination Office for the file on the repatriation of Syrian refugees on Wednesday that the influx of Syrian refugees returning home is expected to rise soon.
"This requires an expansion of the network of crossings and offices of the reception, distribution and shelter center for Syrian refugees.
"In addition to the entry points that have already started, three new points have been opened, Salhiya Bari crossing in Deir al-Zour and the Banias sea crossing (in Tartous governorate) and the crossing at Damascus International Airport," Mizintsev said.
According to data provided by the heads of the offices of the reception, distribution and shelter center in the three mentioned points, the Salhiya crossing can receive 800 people a day. The Banias crossing can receive 15,000 people a day, while the terminal at Damascus International Airport can accommodate 1050 people.
In addition, Mizintsev added that four additional entry points for refugees were also set up on the Syrian border with Lebanon.
He stressed that Russian initiatives to establish a reception, distribution and shelter center in Damascus and the opening of offices at the entry points were fully supported by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The center has previously opened 4 entry points for refugees, namely Zumrani, Jedidah Yabous and Dabusia on the border with Lebanon and a share on the border with Jordan.
Since the establishment of the center in Damascus on June 18 and the opening of its border crossings, 4592 people have returned to Syria, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, which is working on the repatriation of refugees in cooperation with the Russian Foreign Ministry and Syrian authorities, 4174 from Lebanon and 318 from Jordan. End 25 n
