The Council of Ministers approved the obligation of foreign companies to employ 50% of the national workforce within their investment projects.
The Ministry of Labor spokesman, Ammar Menem, said in a statement read by "Economy News" that "the ministry submitted a proposal to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers to oblige foreign companies to employ national labor by not less than 50% of the total labor in investment projects, From the National Investment Commission or investment bodies in the provinces. "
He added that "the proposal submitted to the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, ensure that foreign workers are not allowed to work inside Iraq, without obtaining the working leave provided for in the Labor Law No. 37 of 2015."
He added that "the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers took the proposal of the Ministry and issued an order prohibiting the granting of attributes of entry to foreign companies to work in Iraq only after making sure that the contract concluded with the government agencies includes the obligation of foreign companies to review the Department of Foreigners in the Ministry of Labor for the purpose of granting workers working in the work permit "He said.
He pointed out that "Decree No. 80 of 2013 issued by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, hampered the work of the Ministry regarding the employment of national labor, given that the powers to the Director of Residence or head of the mission or authorized to grant the attributes of entry of investors and businessmen and experts without reference to the Ministry of Labor.
He added that "the Ministry of Labor sent a new proposal to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers to choose the proportion of Iraqi labor within the database of the ministry."
The Iraqi Oil Ministry signed a contract with China's Genghua Company to develop an oil field in eastern Baghdad worth $ 3 billion. The contract stipulates that it will be required to rely on Iraqi labor by 50%, gradually increasing to 80%.
Protests erupted since the first week of July in a number of Iraqi provinces, in protest against the deterioration of public services and corruption, and demand the provision of work.
