(Reuters) - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un recently appeared in a different form, quite happy, during an inspection visit to a fish-cutting plant in his country, state media reported on Wednesday.
Kim was very cheerful when he toured the factory wearing an uncommon youthful outfit, accompanied by his young wife Ri Seoul Ju.
Foreign media, including the Business Insider website, said the leader's numerous photographs, along with the candy shelves and his vast smiles, were intended to entrench Kim Jong-un's "new character" after agreeing with the United States on ending nuclear weapons development programs.
Local media and foreign media used to publish Kim's photos during his personal pursuit of missile tests or inspect weapons with his army generals. But things are on the way to change, at least in the media, after the North Korean leader's summit with US President Donald Trump in Singapore in June the past.
During the summit, Kim pledged to work to end Pyongyang's nuclear weapons programs and has already invited correspondents from several countries to follow up on its dismantling of nuclear sites, but a UN report recently concluded that it had "not yet stopped its nuclear and missile programs."
US National Security Adviser John Bolton said on Tuesday that North Korea had not yet taken steps to dispose of its nuclear arsenal, despite the agreement between Trump and Kim in Singapore.
North Korea's economy continues to suffer from international sanctions imposed on the background of nuclear tests.
A UN report last year found that 70 percent of the population was struggling to get enough food, Business Insider reported.
