    Canadian Foreign Minister Christia Freeland said Wednesday she remained optimistic about progress in negotiations with the United States over the amendment of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), but said "there is a huge amount of work to be done."

    "We had a good meeting yesterday, and we also had a good meeting today," Freeland told reporters after meeting with US Trade Representative Robert Laitheiser.

    "I am still optimistic about the discussions we are having and the progress we are making," she said.
    "When it comes to specific issues, we have a lot of work to do," she said.
    The United States and Mexico agreed on Monday to amend the North AmericanFree Trade Agreement ( NAFTA).
    It is pressing Canada to agree to new conditions in auto trade and conflict resolution.
