Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that Israel is deeply frustrated by South Korea's refusal to receive its president, Reuven Rivlin, officially in Seoul.
In a report published Thursday, South Korea rejected a request by Israel that a visit be made to Rivlin this year or next year, noting that Tel Aviv was surprised by Seoul's refusal to receive it.
Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the Israeli ambassador to Seoul, Haim Hoshon, had asked for the visit to be organized at the request of the Foreign Ministry and coordinated with the Israeli presidential office.
The newspaper reported the disparity in estimates in Tel Aviv on the reasons why Seoul refused to receive Rivlin, noting that some official circles in Israel likely that the refusal is due to the frustration of South Korea because of the lack of Israel to buy military hardware and the preference of other countries, especially the purchase of four frigates from Germany Last year to secure gas fields.
The other source said that other estimates suggest that the refusal to welcome Rivlin is due to Seoul's anger at Israel's expression of alarm at the meeting between South Korean President Moon Jae-nen and North Korean President Kim Jong-un last April.
According to the newspaper, South Korea is evading signing a free trade agreement with Israel to improve the ability of Israeli exporters to work in Korea, although the agreement was completed and is expected to sign a year ago.
In the same context, Yedioth Ahronoth reported South Korea's vote at the United Nations against US President Donald Trump's decision to transfer the US embassy to occupied Jerusalem.
