    The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits fell last week to a 49-year low, a sign that the labor market will continue to strengthen, boosting economic growth.

    The US Department of Labor said on Thursday that new jobless claims fell 10,000 times to a seasonally adjusted average of 203,000 for the week ending September 1,

    The lowest since December 1969.
    Economists polled by Reuters had expected demand to rise to 214,000 last week.
