Reuters) - Former US President Barack Obama has attacked incumbent President Donald Trump, while Republicans have been silent about Trump's actions.

"What happened to the Republican Party?" Obama asked in a speech in the state of Illinois, criticizing Republican officials who are content with "vague ambivalent remarks when President Trump takes clear positions."

"They do not serve anyone when they strongly support 90 percent of the crazy things that come from this White House," he said. "Do not worry, we'll avoid the remaining 10 percent."

Obama criticized the current US administration, which said it was "weakening the traditional alliances of the United States and drawing close to Russia ," and criticized Trump's criticism of the judiciary and its attacks on the press.

He continued: "In front of this political situation Sodawi, I see a kind of awareness among citizens across the country," directed a warm appeal to all democracies to go to the polls during the legislative elections next November.

"You have to vote because our democracy is at stake."
