Washington threatens to impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court

The United States has threatened to impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court if it insists on continuing its efforts to try US citizens.
The court is considering the prosecution of a number of elements of the US military on charges of violations of the rights of detainees in Afghanistan.
"We will do everything to protect our citizens," US national security adviser John Bolton said.
The United States is one of dozens of countries that have not signed the Accession Agreement, which was established in 2002.
The Tribunal shall prosecute and punish those responsible for crimes against humanity, war crimes or ethnic cleansing in the event of failure or refusal by local judicial systems to prosecute those responsible.
"We will not stand idly by if the international tribunal insists on its decision," Bolton said in Washington.
