US State Department spokeswoman Heather Neuert condemned the Iranian bombardment of the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in the city of Quesengq in the province of Arbil, which killed dozens of people.
"Iran is playing a bad role in the region and Iraq, and the recent bombing is aimed at destabilizing the country, the government and the entire region," Nuerte told a news conference.
"We expect Iran to respect the sovereignty of Iraq and other countries in the region and stop attempts to destabilize," Nuerte said.
"The United States respects the sovereignty of Iraqi territory and the decision must be made by Iraq," she said.
"The authorities of Iraq and the Kurdistan region must hand over to the Islamic Republic of Iran persons involved in terrorist acts against Iran," Iranian army chief of staff Mohammad Hossein Bagheri said, according to Iranian media.
