MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Syrian military mistakenly dropped a Russian military aircraft over Syria, but blamed it for Israel, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday in a report broadcast by the Russian Information Agency.
The ministry had previously said the plane had disappeared from radar screens over Syria at the same time as Israeli and French forces had been hitting targets in Syria.
The ministry accused the Israeli military aircraft of deliberately creating a "dangerous" situation near the Syrian city of Latakia, near a Russian air base, which said the military plane, an Ilyushin-20 was preparing to land in it.
The ministry added that 15 Russian servicemen were killed because of what it described as Israel's irresponsible actions. Israel had warned of the strikes only a minute before its implementation.
