"The Kut airport project is still ink on paper, and the Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has neglected the subject," the head of the economic committee in Wasit Oreibi al-Zamili said on Saturday.
"The local government was keen from the first moment to form a vital facility in the province, which is Kut airport and according to the study of the project, it will eliminate 17% of unemployment in the province."
He pointed out that "after obtaining all approvals and laying the foundation stone for the project, which provides a significant economic return on the province, there was no serious will of the central government to establish a vital airport, and remained correspondence and correspondence between us and the Government of the Center and the Secretariat and the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority.
Zamili said that "the central government did not meet their obligations," and called on the next government "serious approval to establish the Kut Airport project."
"The Wassit government has already asked Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi for more than once to look into this matter, but he neglected the subject," he said, recalling the reasons for the delay in the project and its lack of "strategic vision of the central government and lack of planning and the presence of unsuitable people in the right place."
Zamili concluded his statement by saying, "We count on the next government and the deputies of the province to put a clear footprint in Wasit," noting that "the issue is purely administrative and has nothing to do with it."
