    Baghdad confirmed Washington, Wednesday, it still supports the programs of governance of the central government and local governments in Iraq, noting that the project is working in collaboration with the central government to develop the capacity of local governments.

    The U.S. embassy in Baghdad said in a statement issued after the opening of Iraq and the United States joint conference to discuss the implementation of the Law of the transfer of powers and responsibilities to local governments and received "tomorrow's Press," that "the U.S. ambassador Stephen Beecroft and Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki opened the first national conference on the status of roadmap for the implementation of Law No. 21 and on the transfer of powers to local governments. "

    "The conference was attended by members of the House of Representatives and officials of regional and local governments of fourteen provinces."

    The U.S. embassy said that "Ambassador Beecroft stressed that Washington still supports the programs of governance of the central government and local governments in Iraq for more than ten years," noting that "the Government of the United States currently and through the United States Agency for International Development is implementing a project to strengthen corporate governance."

    He explained that Bercrawft "conference, which took two days was held under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Iraq under the auspices of the U.S. Mission in Iraq, which included hosting some prominent legal experts Iraq to talk about Act 21 and the potential challenges that may face local governments in light of the recent amendments."

    He pointed out that "Law 21 also called the law of provincial powers is a constitutional amendment proposal addresses the transfer of powers and responsibilities to local governments," adding that "the project to strengthen the governance of the United States Agency for International Development is working with the central government and local governments to develop their capabilities for the purpose of providing basic services to the Iraqi people, according to the Framework Agreement Strategic between America and Iraq. "

    The theme of the powers granted by the central government to the provinces to take the character of the controversy and Turahqat political statements since the formation of the provincial councils in the previous session in 2006.
