China's trade surplus with the United States rose to a record $ 34.13 billion in September, compared with 31.05 billion in August, Chinese data showed on Friday.
China's trade surplus with the United States in the first nine months of this year was $ 225.79 billion compared with about $ 196.01 billion in the same period a year earlier.
The Trump administration imposed additional customs duties on Chinese goods worth $ 250 billion to compensate for what it considers to be intellectual property theft, and particularly denounces the forced transfer of foreign companies' technology, especially in exchange for entry into the Chinese market.
Beijing and Washington held negotiations last spring that led to a settlement under which China committed to reduce its trade deficit with the United States by opening up its markets more to US goods, but the trade truce did not continue and turned into a trade war with the two countries imposing customs duties on hundreds of billions of dollars of goods.
