    The International Federation of Transport Workers (IFT) has condemned threats by judicial authorities in Iran to execute truck drivers on strike, calling on the ILO to intervene.
    The Federation issued a statement on its official website condemning the Iranian authorities' threat to execute the striking drivers, describing the threats as "inhuman and unfair".
    The Secretary-General of the International Federation of Transport Workers, Stephen Kuten, officials of the Iranian regime "to listen to the demands of truck drivers," stressing that "the drivers' crisis is economic in the first place, and can not be solved by threats."
    A number of officials of the judiciary in Iran threatened to impose the death penalty on truck drivers, after their strike and organize protest vigils and sit-ins, to protest the deterioration of their living and working conditions.
    "We will impose the most severe punishment on them, and if they are proven guilty of the war, there will be severe sentences, including execution," he said.
    While a number of judicial officials in Iran described the drivers as "bandits", vowing to punish them.
    The Iranian security services arrested about 200 people against the background of the vigil of truck drivers, while reports of the organization of truck drivers for new sit-ins in a number of different provinces.
    Truck driver sit-ins in Iran after the authorities ignored the crisis of the deterioration of their living and the practical situation, in light of the increase in prices and the devaluation of the local currency.
    The drivers announced a package of demands during their vigils, including setting a fixed fare per tonne of kilometers on their flights, reducing the prices of truck and tire parts, increasing the cost of retired drivers, improving road insurance and restructuring trade unions of drivers through free elections.
    Iran witnessed truck-like sit-ins last May, when the International Federation of North American Truck Drivers announced its solidarity with the truck drivers' sit-in in Iran.
