Source reveals the results of the meeting of Sunni leaders in the House of Halbusi
"Sunni parties represented in the National Axis Alliance have agreed to hold on to the defense and finance portfolios of the new government, along with four other ministries that are negotiable," a well-informed source told Sunni leaders on Wednesday.
The source said that "the Sunni forces reached preliminary agreements, during a meeting in the house of Parliament Speaker Mohamed Halboussi, confirms its adherence to the defense and finance portfolios, along with four ministerial portfolios are negotiable."
"Sunni forces have discussed a proposal made by Shiite forces to exchange portfolios of defense and interior, and the Shiites will accept the defense and the internal Sunnis, unlike the quotas known since 2005," he said.
"The majority of the Sunni parties rejected the proposal and insisted that the defense portfolio remain within their quota," he said, adding that handing over the interior portfolio, dominated by the Shiite parties over three governments, would make the minister a facade while the ministry effectively ran other Shi'ite officials "He said.
