said Turkish officials said two Turks police searched a forest on the outskirts of the city of Istanbul and near the Marmara Sea in search of the body of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi , who disappeared after he entered the Saudi consulate two weeks ago.

The investigators have collected "many samples" from the Consulate's inspection and consular residence and are analyzing them for the effects of Khashoggi's DNA, the senior officials told Reuters on Thursday.

The officials said the authorities had expanded the search after tracking the tracks and parking places that left the Saudi consulate in Istanbul and the residence of the consul on October 2, the day Khashoggi was last seen.

They said that Khashoggi's killers may have thrown his body into the Belgrade forest adjacent to Istanbul and at a rural location close to Yalova, 90 km south of Istanbul.

"Investigations have led to some doubts that his remains may be in the city of Yalova and the Belgrade forest," one official said. "A country house or a villa may have been used to get rid of the remains," he said.

On Thursday, Turkish investigators searched the Saudi consulate for the second time.

Khashoggi's disappearance and the prospect of his death raised international cries of protest, and strained relations between Saudi Arabia, the United States and European countries, despite Saudi Arabia's frequent denials of charges of carrying out the mysterious disappearance.
