The agreement will generate up to 14 additional gigawatts, provide up to 65,000 direct and indirect jobs, achieve greater savings, avoid losses of up to $ 3 billion annually, establish a local technology center, and support water and healthcare services.
The agreement was signed by HE Qassem Al-Fahdawi, the Iraqi Minister of Electricity; and Joseph Anis, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Services Unit in Africa, South Asia and the Middle East.
The agreement marks an extension of GE's long-standing presence in Iraq and the company's commitment to support development efforts that have supported the Iraqi people for more than 50 years.
The plan includes the following main points:
Add up to 14 GW to support the energy security route GE will prioritize the application of fast and reliable technologies as well as modernize existing power plant operations to provide an additional 1.5 GW by 2019 and be sufficient to provide 1.5 million Iraqi homes of energy In conjunction with the provision of maintenance and rehabilitation services for the additional 7 GW currently in operation.
