The General Company for Ports announced on Monday laying the foundation stone in the Faw district for a project to establish a new berth for boats and fishing vessels at a cost of 36 billion dinars, and stressed that the project will be implemented in a joint operation with the private sector.

The company said in a statement received by Alsumaria News that "the management of the company laid the foundation stone for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Marsa in the district of Faw to be a stop and stand for the boats and fishing vessels of Iraq," indicating that "the project includes a lot of basic services and infrastructure."

"The marina will be a 350 meter sea front and, when completed, will contain equipment, workshops, repairs for ships, a fresh water station and fuel stations," the statement said. Exclusively, and the value of the project 36 billion and 600 million dinars, has been referred to implementation in accordance with the method of joint operation with the private sector.

It is noteworthy that the province of Faw, which is the southernmost of the province of Basra is famous for its population fishing profession, and the elimination of an old port dedicated to boats and fishing vessels, and was dependent on the local economy to eliminate a large proportion of agriculture, but the agricultural reality in FAO has been collapsing over the past few years because Severe sea-water intrusion into the Shatt al-Arab stream has been exacerbated, leading to the eradication of various types of crops.
