Three days after Election Day, two Senate and 13 House races remain uncalled, and if the 2000 presidential race is an indication, we could be waiting weeks for the outcome of one of those Senate races.



A third race in the Senate will be decided later this month when Mississippi votes in a runoff for Tuesday’s top two finishers.

House Democrats have already passed the threshold for a majority that they haven’t held since 2010. Based on current projections, they could obtain as many as 234 seats — good for a 33-seat majority — though it is more likely they’ll land somewhere around 228 seats for a still-significant 21-seat margin.

In the Senate, the GOP flipped seats in Indiana, North Dakota and Missouri — states that President Donald Trump won by double digits in 2016 — over to their side.

Here are the races yet to be called by noon ET Friday that will determine the size of the Republicans’ majority in the Senate and the Democrats’ in the House:

Senate

Florida

The race for the Senate seat in Florida has turned into a nasty battle of accusations as it is likely to go to a recount.

After three terms in the upper chamber, Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida conceded to Republican Florida Gov. Rick Scott just after midnight Wednesday, but as the margin between the two narrowed later in the day Nelson called for a recount.

Scott and the National Republican Senatorial Committee sued Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes Thursday for failing to turn over information about ballots that have been counted. Scott also called for a Florida Department of Law Enforcement Investigation into Broward’s handling of ballots.

Trump accused Broward County officials with “finding votes out of nowhere” as he left the White House Friday morning for a trip to Paris for an Armistice Day celebration.
 

Arizona

Democratic Rep. Kyrsten Sinema holds a lead of less than a point over GOP Rep. Martha McSally with almost all precincts reporting. Absentee and provisional ballots will also add to the vote totals over the next few days.

Mississippi

The race for Mississippi’s junior Senate seat has been called, but there will not be a declared winner until a Nov. 27 runoff election.

GOP Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith and former Democratic Secretary of Agriculture Mike Espy advanced to the runoff after Hyde-Smith failed to reach the 50 percent threshold for an outright victory. Republican Chris McDaniel siphoned off 16.4 percent of the vote from Hyde-Smith.

House

Republican incumbents

Four incumbent California Republicans are locked in close battles that The Associated Press has not called.

Reps. Steve Knight and Dana Rohrabacher in the 25th and 48th Districts, respectively, trail their Democratic challengers. Reps. Jeff Denham in the 10th and Mimi Walters in the 45th lead the Democrats in their uncalled races with some mail-in ballots still uncounted.

In Georgia, GOP Rep. Rob Woodall led Democrat Carolyn Bourdeaux by less than a point in the race for suburban Atlanta’s 7th District.

Utah Rep. Mia Love, who spoke at the 2016 Republican National Convention and is the GOP’s only black woman in the House, trailed by a little less than 3 percentage points to Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams with 76 percent of precincts reporting in the 4th District.

With just absentee and provisional ballots left to count, Democratic challenger Anthony Brindisi led Rep. Claudia Tenney by about half a percentage point in New York’s 22nd District. Tenney ran one of the most pro-Trump campaigns of any vulnerable Republican this cycle.

Democratic challenger and former Obama administration official Andy Kim holds a lead of a little more than a percentage point over Rep. Tom MacArthur with all paper ballots still being counted in New Jersey’s 3rd District.

Republican incumbents in Maine’s 2nd District (Bruce Poliquin), New York’s 27th (Chris Collins) and Texas’ 23rd (Will Hurd) hold narrow edges in their respective races, but those contests remained uncalled at noon Friday.

Open seats

Two open seats currently in Republican hands remain uncalled.

Republicans hold narrow leads for the seat held by retiring Rep. Ed Royce in California’s 39th District, and in North Carolina’s 9th District, held by outgoing Rep. Robert Pittenger.
