US media reported a rise in the number of victims of forest fires in California.

According to KSBY, the death toll has risen to 23.

Earlier, about 11 people were reported killed during the fires in northern and southern parts of California.

US President Donald Trump described the devastation caused by California's forest fires as "catastrophic."
He also called on citizens to quickly leave the affected areas before they reach the fire and follow the instructions of officials and state authorities, warning that the fires are spreading very quickly.

Trump announced a state of emergency in California, which would allow the state to get federal help to overcome the fires.

Firefighters in northern California expanded on Thursday, killing nine people, setting fire to more than 36,000 hectares and destroying nearly 7,000 buildings, making it the most devastating in the state's history.

The Tapas fire, which also occurred in the north of the state, was considered the most devastating in California's history. It occurred in October 2017, killing nearly 15,000 hectares and destroying more than 5.5,000 buildings.
