    WASHINGTON -
President Donald Trump on Sunday threatened to close the border with Mexico if the situation came out of control as human waves of Central American immigrants arrived at the border of Mexico and America.
Thousands of immigrants from Central America arrived at the US border and gathered in the northwestern Mexican city of Tijuana on the US border, amid growing frustration at the small possibility of entering the United States. The mayor of the city called for their deportation.
Mexican Interior Minister Alfonso Navarrete said "the chances of entry into the United States" are virtually non-existent, warning that "there is a huge risk of incidents at the border."
"The Mexican authorities will try to prevent these immigrants from entering the United States by force, while the migrants received hostility from the population and the mayor of Tijuana who requested their deportation," Navarrete said.
On 13 October, thousands of people from Honduras formed a convoy to the United States. Other migrants, especially from Salvador, Haiti and others, joined the convoy after crossing 4,300 kilometers on foot or on trucks or buses.
Over the past five years, the number of asylum seekers has increased by 2,000 percent along the border, while less than 10 percent is accepted, according to the administration.
The Defense Ministry has mobilized a number of its soldiers as well as border guards for fear of border infiltration or violence, but the Defense Ministry confirmed members of the military police would be equipped with shields and batons, and would not use any rifles.
