Macaron: Paris protests are not peaceful

PARIS (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macaron said on Saturday that his country's protests against tax policies, which reached its peak today in Paris, were not peaceful, stressing that the protesters, who were inspired to carry out acts of sabotage, did not want to listen to anyone.
"What happened today in Paris has nothing to do with the legitimate and peaceful demands," McCron said at a conference at the end of his participation in the G20 summit in Argentina. "Those who sabotage, destroy and desecrate the Arc de Triomphe do not want to listen to anyone."
"There is no reason for police to attack, loot shops, burn public or private buildings, threaten pedestrians or journalists, so that the Arc de Triomphe will be desecrated."
"The perpetrators of this violence do not want change, they do not want any improvement, they want chaos, they betray the reasons they claim to serve and manipulate. Will be identified and held accountable in court. "
"Tomorrow, when I return, I will hold an inter-ministerial meeting with relevant services. I will always respect the protest, and I will always listen to the opposition, but I will never accept violence. "
French police said that "a number of demonstrators deliberately burned cars and vandalized shop fronts in the Champs-Elysées."
The number of detainees in the protests according to the latest statistics of the French Interior Ministry to 287 detainees.
"Yellow jackets" protests continue in France for the third consecutive week in protest against President Emmanuel Macaron's economic policies, notably the increase in taxes on fuel prices.

The violence escalated in the French capital Paris on Saturday, amidst demonstrations by the owners of the "yellow jackets" and attempts to enter the Champs-Elysees, police responded with water hoses and gas bombs, and turned into fights between the protesters, while the French capital saw the looting of a number of banks And restaurants.
Police arrested more than 120 people during protest demonstrations during the third demonstration by angry protesters raising fuel prices.
The French authorities mobilized thousands of police officers, responded to more than 30 thousand demonstrators, and resulted in clashes 65 people, including 11 of the security forces, according to the police.
The confrontations escalated in the afternoon, when a number of demonstrators burned cars in central Paris, met by police fired tear gas canisters, in addition to the outbreak of looting of a number of banks and restaurants in the center of the capital.
Demonstrators gathered inside the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, while others removed barriers set by the police to protect the statue of the unknown soldier, amidst a charged atmosphere.
The Champs-Elysées were also burned down by car-burning by demonstrators, which necessitated the reuse of water hoses by the police.
The "yellow jackets" protests in France continue for the third week in a row, in protest of President Emmanuel Macaron's economic policies, most notably the increase in taxes on fuel prices.

French police said more than 90 people, including 14 members of the security forces, were injured in protests in Paris.
Police also announced the arrest of more than 280 demonstrators from the Yellow Jackets movement during the protests, as well as the closure of 19 subway stations in Paris because of the violence.
For his part, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, the police forces will address the acts of vandalism, carried out by the protesters, pointing out that the security forces have been subjected to violent attacks and unprecedented by the demonstrators.
From Argentina, French President Emmanuel Macaron said that the wave of violence and vandalism in Paris on Saturday could not be justified in any way and had nothing to do with the peaceful expression of legitimate anger.
"There is no reason to attack the security forces, loot shops, set fire to public and private buildings, threaten passersby and journalists, and set the Arc de Triomphe," Macron told a news conference in Buenos Aires, where he is attending the G20 summit.
McCron declined to ask questions from journalists after a day of violence in Paris, saying the perpetrators of the violence were only seeking to spread chaos.
He said he would chair a meeting of senior ministers immediately after his return to his country to discuss ways to counter the situation.
On Saturday, clashes broke out between hundreds of "saboteurs" and French security forces in the heart of Paris, where cars were burned, glass facades and barricades burned, on the sidelines of a new demonstration of the Yellow Jackets movement, which is protesting tax increases and declining purchasing power.
