The Australian government has secured opposition support for passing laws that have been described as "tougher" against migrants and asylum seekers, asserting that these laws will apply to anyone who gets an immigration visa to Australia after January 1.
According to Australia's SBS, these laws would require new immigrants to wait for 4 years before they could be eligible for job-search pensions or get rebates for those who are not working or older. 
Australian government sources said the laws would extend the waiting period for other grants such as care payments, parental leave payments after the birth of a new child and a partner's pay, to two years. New immigrants would also have to wait a full year before they could get On the family tax deduction that usually comes from the income.
She added that "these new laws will apply to every person who gets a visa to migrate to Australia after the first of January next, the first day of the year 2019," explaining that "it will save hundreds of millions of dollars on the treasury, says the Minister of Social Services" .
The Australian Labor Party has announced that it has been forced to support government immigration bills after obtaining concessions to mitigate these laws in order to break the path of its agreement with smaller parties such as the one-party party led by Pauline Hanson.
