WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Six members of the US Senate on Thursday submitted a draft resolution confirming Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's complicity in the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, stressing that all parties involved in Khashoggi's murder, including Bin Salman, must be held accountable.
The developments come after a hearing to inform the CIA about Khashoggi's death inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.
Although the draft resolution is not binding, passing it would be a clear and explicit position of the Senate on Bin Salman's involvement in the crime.
"It is necessary for US national security interests to issue a critical statement about the brutal killing of a journalist who was a resident of the United States and has three children with US citizenship," said Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a co-sponsor of the bill.
The Republican senator pointed out that the draft resolution "declares definitively that the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia colluded to kill Khashoggi, and was a solution to the demolition in the region, jeopardizing our interests on several fronts."
The draft resolution also deals with other actions of Saudi Arabia in the region, such as human rights violations related to the war on Yemen, the siege of Qatar, imprisonment of dissidents and human rights activists.
The draft resolution was co-sponsored by Graham, Senaturin Marco Rubio, Todd Young of the Republican Party, Dianne Feinstein, Ed Markey and Chris Koons of the Democrats. Ending / 25
