The Daily Telegraph published an article by Jeremy Warner, in which he said that "trade war threatens to burn the world."
Warner notes that China believes that the arrest of a senior official in Huawei deliberately escalated the conflict with the United States.
After the markets felt a rapprochement between President Donald Trump and his counterpart Xi Jinping at the recent G20 summit, the arrest of Meng Wanzhu, an official with Chinese company Huawei in Canada, came at the request of US investigators.
Regardless of the legitimacy of the arrest, China sees it as a deliberate escalation of Trump's trade war, hampering talks aimed at resolving the conflict between the two countries.
The author says Meng's arrest comes after recent attempts by Western powers to undermine Huawei's growth by seeking to ban its equipment in the fifth-generation mobile network, which China sees as clear economic protection to prevent it from reaching the level of Western countries in economic well-being.
The author argues that China's complaints from China are mostly legitimate. China has stolen Western technology on a large scale, subsidizing its products, flooding markets and stealing unchecked in the name of free trade.
But Trump's trade war goes beyond just a fair trade deal.
