    MP for the province of Basra, Jamal al-Muhammadawi, Tuesday, speeding up the allocation of an urgent budget covering the expenses of the establishment of specialized centers to deal with the effects of cancer to contaminate Basra water with cadmium poison.
    "After a scientific study revealed the main reasons for the poisoning of tens of thousands of people in Basra with drinking water, this study was carried out through the formation of a specialized team of the University of Nahrain under the supervision of the President of the University and the participation of researchers from the DNA Center For research and training, the Faculty of Science and the Center for Renewable Energies and other faculties. "
    He added that "a research team began its analytical work in late September, and collected dozens of samples of surface and deep water and two beaches and these samples were subjected to accurate analytical tests," noting that "the study showed the presence of many pollutants, including some types of bacteria and residues of fertilizers and pesticides and chemical residues Industrial and high levels of nitrates and sulfates, and radiation at the level of natural, but the polluter the most serious contamination of the element (cadmium), where the pollution rate by more than 53 times the upper limit allowed.
    He explained that "the symptoms suffered by citizens in Basra coincide with symptoms of acute poisoning with (cadmium), which may cause cancer and osteoporosis and kidney failure in the case of exposure for a long time, even a little concentration," and called for "the allocation of urgent budgets to conduct research to detect Source of contamination of the element (cadmium) to be treated immediately. "
    He called for "not to use the waters of the Shatt al-Arab for the purposes of drinking or breeding fish in the polluted part of it and provide an alternative water source and the construction of a regulator on the Shatt al-Arab separates the area where the source of pollution (the southern part) is located from the northern part of the Shatt al-Arab to prevent pollution from Stretching north.
