Baker Hughes: The number of oil excavators in America is falling for the second week in a row 11844

The number of oil rigs in the United States fell for the second week in a row as energy companies continued to reduce the number of active excavators over the past month after crude prices collapsed in October and November.
Baker Hughes Energy Services, in its closely monitored weekly report, said drilling companies had shut down four oil excavators in the week ending Dec. 14, bringing the total to 873.
The number of active excavators in America, a preliminary indicator of future production, is higher than a year ago when it reached 747 diggers as energy companies spend spending to benefit from an increase in prices.
Since the beginning of the year, the total number of active oil and gas rigs in the United States has averaged 1,030, heading towards the highest level since 2014 when it reached 1862 diggers. Most of the excavators produce both oil and gas.
The US Energy Information Administration said this week that the average annual US oil production will rise to a record 10.9 million bpd in 2018 and 12.1 million bpd in 2019, from 9.4 million bpd in 2017.
The current record for annual US oil production was recorded in 1970 when it reached 9.6 million barrels per day, according to federal data.
