"Many of the provisions of the Iraqi Penal Code No. 111 of 1969, which pertain to women, do not conform to the principle of equality of all Iraqis, which was approved by the Constitution," said Tamkeen Alia Al-Shuwaili, director of the Center for Human Rights in a seminar entitled "Sexual Discrimination and Violation of the Rights and Dignity of Women in the Iraqi Penal Code." Iraqi, "asserting the contradiction of a number of articles of the law with the provisions contained in the treaties and international conventions ratified by Iraq and is binding on implementation.
"The Iraqi laws that discriminate between men and women, which have been legislated for about 50 years, are still the silent issues that require further work to modify them in line with the developments in society and the world," she said.
"Some laws still discriminate between men and women in criminal penalties and are lenient with women who are raped and give legal men the beating and discipline of women, as well as the bias of these laws to men in the case of committing adultery and marital infidelity at the time when the most severe penalties are imposed on women, , Stressing the need to amend Iraqi laws that prevent the achievement of social justice, in line with the constitutional principles and international treaties that guarantee the right of equality among all members [url=https://www.thebaghdadpost.com/ar/Story/t/6883/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%AC%D8%AA%D9%85%D8%B9 %D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%82%D9%8A]of Iraqi society[/url] .
