LONDON (Reuters) - Iraq is seeking to raise its output to 5 million bpd by 2019 as Baghdad continues to face economic challenges, including large reconstruction costs, according to a report by Britain's Cindy Gate on Tuesday.
"The Iraqi oil minister has made it clear that he should not stand in the way of Baghdad to boost its production capacity from crude oil to 5 million barrels in 2019, although this table may run counter to the plans of crude oil producers to cut output in the same year," the report said. "He said.
"Baghdad's output targets may come at the expense of its weak cooperation with other OPEC members seeking to boost crude oil prices. As part of this alliance, Iraq has agreed to participate in the group's decision on Dec. 7 to cut production by 1.2 million barrels per day for six months. "
"There is a clear indication whether the Iraqi government will resume pumping full quantities of Kirkuk oil through the pipeline that runs in northern Iraq and from there to the Turkish port of Ceyhan," he said.
The report pointed out that "Iraq's production rose by 6 percent in 2018 thanks to the strong production of the southern oil fields, which represent 95 percent of imports of the Iraqi government, while supporting Iraq's new oil minister Thamer Ghadhban fully Baghdad plans to achieve a production capacity of five Million barrels per day in 2019 and an export capacity of 3.8 million barrels per day.
