    First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hassan al-Kaabi on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Iraq with Gerardo Noto on the establishment of the Parliamentary Development Institute.
    "The Parliamentary Development Institute aims to develop the legislative and supervisory work of the legislative institution and its parliamentary committees, and develop the capabilities and capabilities of the members of the House of Representatives in addition to the employees," al-Kaabi said in a statement received by Al-Maalouma.
    "The establishment of the Parliamentary Development Institute is a previous idea," Al-Kaabi said. "We have worked to mature it in record times."
    He pointed out that "this institute works in most developed democratic countries and is a mechanism to develop the internal work of the House of Representatives through the training and extension of members with skills that improve their performance legislative and oversight within realistic and sophisticated methods."
    "The establishment of the Institute is considered the first step towards further understanding, which may include working towards achieving the goals of sustainable development, empowering women and supporting young people," he said.
    In turn, Gerardo considered that "the establishment of the Parliamentary Development Institute is an important and strategic step to build and develop the capabilities of members of the Legislative Council and control and contribute to support their performance within their parliamentary committees and to improve their work in general. He appreciated the role of First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in maintaining coordination with UNDP in order to develop the Iraqi legislative institution .
