Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi received a telephone call from US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Saturday, during which the US minister explained the reasons for the expected withdrawal from Syria.
He stressed that the United States continues its obligations to fight da'is and terrorism in Iraq and other regions. He also praised the unity of the Iraqi people in all its components and the government's efforts to protect security in Iraq and prevent interference in its affairs.
The Prime Minister reviewed the nature of the positive developments taking place in the country and seeking to complete the ministerial reshuffle, which is expected to achieve further progress during the coming week.
"The development of security in Syria and reaching a political settlement is directly related to Iraqi security and stability in the region," he said, adding that Iraqis are keen to consolidate national unity, defend their country's sovereignty and prevent interference in their internal affairs.
The Prime Minister also praised the right decision to extend the period of the purchase of Iranian electricity for 90 days and agree on how to deal with these issues through deepening relations between the two countries on the basis of common interests.
He noted that all these and other things will be the subject of in-depth research in the upcoming meetings between the parties. Keywords: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
