Turkey's ambassador to Baghdad said on Monday that President Barham Saleh's visit to Turkey was expected to double to 20 billion dollars in 2019.
"Our goal in the volume of trade between the two countries is to reach 20 billion dollars as a preliminary stage if some obstacles are removed," the agency quoted a Chinese ambassador as saying in a statement.
"The biggest obstacle is the double taxation that is being collected on goods coming from Turkey to Iraq through the Kurdistan region," he said.
The report added that "thousands of trucks carrying goods from Turkey to Iraq must pass through the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region in northern Iraq, and imposed double taxation on trucks where they have to pay customs duties on the border crossings between Turkey and the Kurdistan region and then checkpoints between Kurdistan of Iraq ".
"Iraqi President Barham Saleh promised to remove these obstacles during his visit to Turkey on January 3," Yildiz said. "The two countries have a special relationship, and Ankara's priority towards Baghdad is to preserve Iraq's unity and territorial integrity."
According to data from the Turkish Ministry of Trade and Statistics, Turkish trade with Iraq rose to $ 10.6 billion in 2017 from about $ 870.7 million in 2003 and in 2017, Iraq ranked fourth among Turkish export markets. Ending / 25 z
