The dollar held gains on Tuesday ahead of US President Donald H. Trump's State of the Union address, which investors say may hint at progress in trade talks with China.
US Treasury yields received support from a modest recovery in investor appetite for risk last night, but trading in currency markets was weak with many markets in Asia closed.
The Australian dollar rose to recoup losses earlier, after the Reserve Bank of Australia kept interest rates at record lows at its first meeting this year but appeared less inclined to monetary easing than expected.
Investors say they focus on Trump's speech, which was delayed by the US government's closure.
The dollar index, which measures the performance of the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, rose 0.1 percent to 95.98 after rising for three sessions in a row.
The Australian dollar was up 0.3 percent at $ 0.7247.
The euro was steady at $ 1.1438, staying below a three-week high of $ 1.15145 hit on Thursday.
The pound was steady at $ 1.3038 after swinging in the previous session on the fog over how Britain will leave the European Union.
