Reuters) - US lawmakers vowed to take tougher action against Saudi Arabia over the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi after Congress President Donald Trump gave 120 days (ending today) to provide lucrative answers on the issue.

The congressional deadline for Trump expires on Friday to determine whether Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered the assassination of Khashoggi, who was killed at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2.

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions, Anees Kalamar, confirmed that she had "evidence" that Khashoggi's "crime" had been planned and carried out by representatives of Saudi Arabia.

A group of senators from the Republican and Democratic parties on Thursday introduced a bill banning some arms sales to Saudi Arabia, including tanks. The bill also includes sanctions against any Saudi person involved in Khashoggi's murder.

Turkey notes that Khashoggi was killed in his consulate in Istanbul by a team of 15 Saudis who came from their country specifically for this purpose.

Riyadh denied accusations against Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of involvement in the killing, which has strained ties between Riyadh and Ankara and Washington.
