For the second month in a row, the Iraqi market is subjected to painful blows, according to officials and traders, as a result of the escalation of smuggling of goods across the Iranian border, pointing out that these goods include food, medicines, fabrics and electrical devices, and are often expired and sold at very low prices.
According to Iraqi officials, the health and security authorities have launched large campaigns to control and destroy contraband, but the task is difficult because of the establishment of factories and laboratories that change the date of validity of these materials or put new stickers on them.
Iraq is associated with Iran with a land border of more than 1,300 kilometers, starting from Diyala to the east through the Kurdistan region of Iraq to the north and Basra to the south. Sulaymaniyah, Diyala, Wasit and Basra are the most vulnerable cities of Iraq because of the wide open areas between the two countries, controlling her.
An Iraqi official told the newspaper "The New Arab" and was briefed by "Economy News" that his country is sending a delegation to Tehran to discuss the smuggling and control of the networks operating in this area, which carry daily tons of tons of goods to Iraq, In Iraq.
The official pointed to the lack of control operations by the ministries of health, environment and border crossings, as well as the presence of traders working to introduce the damaged materials and medicines to the country.
Ali al-Yasiri, a member of the Baghdad Chamber of Commerce, estimated that Iraq is suffering from smuggling from Iran about 10 million dollars a month, pointing out that the state, traders and citizens are losing.
Al-Yasiri said: "The issue has gone further and now the intervention of the shop to buy a commodity is found at the price of the first thousand dinars and the other five hundred dinars, and when you ask why they say this to you customs and the second without customs to enter through smuggling," pointing out that the smuggling increased after the US sanctions on Iran.

The Iraqi Ministry of Health has destroyed 10 shipments of foodstuffs, poultry and meat in the last few days, citing the fact that they were not valid, while they were seized in the markets and the date of manufacture and origin in some of them was manipulated.
"Expired food or medicine or unauthorized origin threatens the health and lives of citizens and the entire society," said Fares al-Birfkani, a member of the Health and Environment Committee of the Iraqi parliament. "There should be legislation that would impose penalties on those who introduce drugs and foods that are expired, Unknown".
Al-Birfkani said in a statement to the "New Arab" to the need to activate the Ministry of the Interior oversight role through the inspection services and border crossings.
Security experts point out that the control of border posts by some parties has hampered the work of regulatory institutions and limited their applicability to the laws.
