[rtl]The Pentagon is preparing to test two banned missiles under the medium- and short-range disarmament treaty that Washington has recently announced its intention to withdraw, the Associated Press reported.[/rtl]

[rtl]The agency, quoting two Pentagon sources who declined to be identified, said tests could begin before the treaty expires in August.[/rtl]

[rtl]The two sources said that one of the missiles is a winged missile with a low path up to a thousand kilometers, and the other a ballistic missile range of between 3 and 4,000 km.[/rtl]

[rtl]According to the exporters, the tests were tentatively planned in August, and the missiles will not carry nuclear warheads.[/rtl]

[rtl]Pentagon officials said the United States had not yet consulted with allies in Europe and Asia about the possibility of deploying missiles on their territory.[/rtl]

[rtl]According to one source, medium-range ballistic missiles could be deployed in the Pacific islands of Guam, posing a potential threat to China and Russia.[/rtl]

[rtl]At present, NATO is considering the expected consequences of ending the missile treaty between Russia and the United States and considering measures to contain it.[/rtl]

[rtl]Washington has announced in early February to suspend the work of the treaty for six months in preparation for a final withdrawal, after accusing Russia of violating its terms. For its part, Moscow rejected the US accusations, noting that Washington is violating the Treaty and looking for excuses to withdraw from them. In response, Moscow also announced the suspension of the PCT. [/rtl]
