    Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi on Thursday expressed his intention to expand bilateral relations between the two countries. 

    "Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi received in his official office today the Minister of Trade and Investment of Saudi Arabia Majid Al-Qasabi and his accompanying delegation," Abdul-Mahdi's office said in a statement received by Alsumaria News. 

    "We look forward to establishing the best relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in all fields and we cherish the common desire to establish broad relations on the right bases for the benefit of the two peoples in the two brotherly countries," he said.     Abdul Mahdi expressed his intention to "continue to expand bilateral relations and culminate in the joint talks by signing important agreements during his upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia."

    The meeting discussed the preparations for the Iraqi-Saudi joint committee, where the Saudi side expressed" its readiness for economic cooperation, oil and electricity linkage and participation in reconstruction efforts of Iraq. "

    A number of agreements have been signed to strengthen economic cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, including the opening of the border crossing between the two countries, where 85 per cent of Saudi exports are carried out through land transport through Kuwait and Jordan, 15 per cent By shipping.
