The US Senate voted to end President Trump's national emergency on the border with Mexico, and a number of Republican lawmakers joined the democratic minority to object to the president's announcement.
Trump announced that he would use the veto, vetoing the resolution, already passed in the House of Representatives, meaning that he would now go to the White House to make a decision on it, and it would be the first time Trump used the veto since taking office in 2017.
The final vote was 59 to 41, 12 Democrats joined in to end the president's announcement, and although many members of Trump's Republican Party did not adhere to the party agenda, the council lacked the two-thirds majority needed to overturn the presidential veto.
The president announced a national emergency to get billions of dollars to fund the construction of the border wall, which he pledged to build along the border with Mexico in part of the campaign promises.
